Six years ago, an idea was formed between two Warden couples, Gordie and Annie Edwards and Tom and Linda Gould. “Let’s have our own classic car show,” said the classic car enthusiasts and one year later the First Annual Warden Classic Car and Bike Show was born. The first show was held at the north end of Main Street. Five years later it is still going strong. Tom Gould has passed away but his wife Linda is still very active in the event. Three years ago Dave and Michelle Altizer climbed on board as two more organizers. Their hard work has paid off. This year on Saturday, Sept. 12 the show was held in the shade of Warden Volunteer Park. There were 52 entries, a record number for the car show. There were only 18 last year. Bob and Linda Swingle came all the way from Mount Vernon in their 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4, just to spend the day in the shade and “in good company,” remarked Bob as he and his wife posed for a picture. Advertise it and they will come. By word of mouth, internet and Cruzin’ Magazine they came. From Walla Walla, Tri-Cities, Benton City, Bickleton, Yakima, Malaga, as far away as Mount Vernon, and the local area of Moses Lake, Othello, Ephrata, Ritzville, Quincy, Odessa and of course Warden, they came to spend the day. The Lions Club furnished the food. Prizes and cash were donated by local businesses. The committee would like to thank Tires West, Prior Farms, Skone Irrigation, Jake Hooley, Columbia Seed, Pure Line Seed, C&V Auto, Auto Zone (Moses Lake and Othello), Napa Auto Parts (Warden and Othello), Pheasant Run Town & Country Mark-It, Ziggy’s, Sporty’s Steakhouse, Les Schwab, Yamaha, Warden Wheatland Bank, Wilbur Ellis, Weinstein Beverage and Peterbilt for their donations. The Mayor’s Choice award went to a 1956 Golden Hawk Studebaker owned by David and Audry Haynes of Bickleton. First prize in the pre-1930 category went to a 1923 Ford T-Bucket, owned by Ken and Mary Pyles from Walla Walla. Best of the Show went to a 1941 Plymouth, owned by Bob and Joan Duffin from Moses Lake
