![]() Warden Public Library
In May of 1958, under a two-year, federally financed library demonstration, the first bookmobile toured city schools. By 1959, the bookmobile was visiting Warden every other Monday, with stops at Hoopers' corner, Lelands', Warden School, the drug store, Dennings and Villerals'. In 1960, the rural citizens of Chelan, Douglas, Ferry, Grant and Okanogan counties voted to establish and financially support the North Central Regional Library. As provided for the Public Library Laws of the State of Washington, services the new intercounty rural library district were offered and extended to incorporated cities and towns on a contractural basis.
The Warden branch is presently open 23 hours weekly, an reading program is featured each year. The city contracts with the North Central Regional District for library services. The local branch, which is provided by the city, is one of 28 such facilities in Chelan, Douglas, Ferry, Grant, and Okanogan County associated with the regional library program. Residents of Warden and rural Grant County are welcome to use all regional branches without charge. Mail order library services are available to rural postal box holders and city residents that are homebound.
